VECTOR- GIVING BRAGGING A WHOLE NEW DEFINITION…
Olanrewaju Ogunmefun known to music fans as Vector the Viper or Vector YSG or simply Vector is arguably the rave of the moment as far as Nigerian Hip-Hop/Rap game is concerned. From an underground status not too far back to one of the most sought after artiste in the game today, it is not surprising to see Vector climbing up stealthily the famed ladder to success.
From his style which many have said is similar to America’s Shawn Carter aka JayZ to his punchlines and lyrical dexterity, Vector just keeps getting better with every track and makes no apologies about it when he says that he’s the best. Afterall, that’s what the rap game is about: bragging. His appearance on Dj Mewsic’s Emilomona track just seems to buttress the point that “success is intoxicating” because on it, Vector takes bragging to a whole new level with lines such as “if I aint the best then J aint Hova” whatever that means.
His latest effort which is a 16 tracker mixtape aptly titled “Bar-Racks,” is a testimony to this lyricist’s ingenuity and dedication to his art. Signed onto YSG Entertainment, the mixtape was released on his birthday which by the way was yesterday August 6th 2012 and available for free download online. Already enjoying massive airplay and rave reviews are songs such as ‘wasted’ and ‘tuwo’ off the mixtape which he released as singles.
As is with most rap artistes, his public spat with fellow rapper Reminisce was well publicised with the duo going into the studio separately to record beef tracks in an effort to out-do each other and even though they didn’t call each other out directly, it is obvious who reference is being made to. Nonetheless, dissing or beef is allowed in hip-hop; history is replete with rappers who dissed others and got dissed back in return.
Needless to say, Vector is hot property right now and is basking in the euphoria of stardom but for how long can he stay up there considering the fact that he has just one studio album to his credit (state of surprise) which wasn’t truly an astounding commercial success (depends on how you define commercial success)? Is he just a flash in a pan or he’s here for the long haul? What do you think? Giztzzz… madetv!
