VIDEO: US RAPPER, TROY AVE RELEASED FROM JAIL ON $500,000 BAIL…
After spending several weeks in custody following the fatal shooting that took place in New York on May 25th, Troy Ave was released on Monday (July 11). The rapper, real name Roland Collins, posted $500,000 bond that was secured by his mother’s Brooklyn home. As it stands, Troy Ave is charged with attempted murder, weapons possession and a multitude of other charges stemming from the incident. His friend and bodyguard Ronald “Banga” McPhatter was killed in the incident and prosecutors have been attempting to charge the Brooklyn rapper for his murder.
Troy Ave’s attorney John Stella contends that his client was acting in self-defense, telling reporters that Collins wrestled the gun away from the assailant and fired back. “We feel that we have a case to present that’s ultimately going to exonerate him and indicate that his actions were justified,” says Stella.
“What is clear is that the investigation from the outset has been hampered by the defendant who not only fired and removed the weapon from the crime scene, he refused to help in any way [to identify] who killed McPhatter”
Troy Ave, who was shot in the leg during the incident, was handcuffed to a wheelchair as he was led into the courtroom on Monday (July 11). Troy Ave is required to wear an ankle bracelet and cannot leave the city. He is also ordered to stay away from all bars, concert halls, arenas and any other performance venues. According to his attorney John Stella, the rapper will miss several shows that he was contracted to perform at. Along with the condition of his release, Troy Ave will be unable to visit his children.
